At over 4,500 metres above sea level, Machuca village is one of the highest villages in the world. The village, it is told, celebrates 26 religious festivals each year, some of which last up to two weeks. Once a fully populated traditional village, the main source of income for the settlement now is tourism, with only 15 residents living there all year round. This is due to the lack of amenities, such as shops and schools within easy reaching distance.
This man, dressed in traditional dress, sits in the village and plays guitar every day, allowing tourists to take a photo of him in exchange for putting some money in his pot. His job is primarily to look cool, play guitar and chat to tourists, much like the street entertainers we have in Britain.
